GLOBALG.A.P. – PUTTING FOOD SAFETY AND SUSTAINABILITY ON THE MAP

29.04.2013

Our vision is safe and sustainable food produced by passionate farmers for consumers all over the world.

GLOBALG.A.P., the world’s preeminent harmonized agricultural standard, recognized in over 100 countries, has a very clear mission:

•    Connect farmers and brand owners around the globe in the production and marketing of safe food to provide re-assurance for consumers.
•    Create a universal brand: a single standard that identifies safe production methods, responsible use of resources and the welfare of employees and animals.
•    Advance Good Agricultural Practice worldwide to lay the foundation for the protection of scarce resources with a promise for a sustainable future.

The GLOBALG.A.P. System: Building trust and spurring innovation

With more than 400 certified products and over 130,000 certified producers in more than 110 countries, GLOBALG.A.P. has built a comprehensive system based on a holistic approach of continuous improvement. GLOBALG.A.P. offers producers, suppliers, retailers and the food service industry a solid and reliable system that ensures food safety and sustainability and builds confidence, integrity and trust in the global market:

•    GLOBALG.A.P. Brands: Three product categories – GLOBALG.A.P., localg.a.p., GLOBALG.A.P.+ Add-on – cover 23 standards or programs, 20 benchmarked schemes and 7 national interpretation guidelines.

•    GLOBALG.A.P. Certification: The product of a transparent and independent standard-setting system, GLOBALG.A.P. Certification relies on the intensive consultation, contribution and collaboration of technical and stakeholder committees, members, National Technical Working Groups, certification bodies and the industry. The program works with more than 1400 trained inspectors and auditors working for 142 accredited certification bodies to perform independent third-party producer audits and issue our certificates.

•    GLOBALG.A.P. Membership: A network of partnerships that extends across the globe, GLOBALG.A.P. members play a major role in connecting producers and suppliers, improving GLOBALG.A.P. Certification, creating a benchmarking framework and promoting food safety, sustainability, worker safety, animal welfare and environmental protection.

•    GLOBALG.A.P. Benchmarking: Developed to share common objectives with other certification system owners around the globe with respect to safe and sustainable production, GLOBALG.A.P. Benchmarking recognizes and supports local initiatives, harmonizes common and effective Good Agricultural Practice and so simplifies certification and reduces the high costs of unnecessary duplication.

•    GLOBALG.A.P. Database: A secure online certification database that customers can use to check producers and validate certificates, the GLOBALG.A.P. Database is a key tool to ensuring transparency in the supply chain and supporting buyer sourcing strategies.

•    GLOBALG.A.P. Farm Assurers: An extensive worldwide network of trained and independent, onsite advisors and consultants, Farm Assurers walk producers through the steps necessary to obtain GLOBALG.A.P. Certification. With first-hand knowledge about the GLOBALG.A.P. System and the latest developments in agriculture, Farm Assurers use their expertise to make the standard easier to understand and simplify audit preparations.

•    GLOBALG.A.P. Academy: Public workshops on crops, aquaculture and livestock certification, private customized training solutions, and training for both certification bodies and Farm Assurers, GLOBALG.A.P. shares its knowledge and expertise with thousands of people on 5 continents and in 5 languages.

•    GLOBALG.A.P. Integrity Program: A pioneering integrity system, the first of its kind in food certification, using independent assessments to monitor the performance of GLOBALG.A.P. accredited certification bodies. The Integrity Program is designed to ensure consistent delivery and implementation of the standard worldwide. It acts as a feedback mechanism that serves the ongoing improvement of the GLOBALG.A.P. System in all its aspects, and promotes transparency and integrity throughout the entire G.A.P. harmonization process.

Enhancing food safety and sustainability means greater access to markets for producers, safer products for retailers and consumers, more sustainable production systems for governments and broader business opportunities for service providers. And that’s why GLOBALG.A.P. is the most widely accepted private sector food safety certification in the world.

GLOBALG.A.P. Tour 2013: We're On Our Way To You, Israel!

GLOBALG.A.P. is more than just a certificate. It’s a vision of global safe and sustainable agricultural production made possible through GLOBALG.A.P.’s tools, programs and partners. To spread this vision and present its tools for change, leading GLOBALG.A.P. experts travel around the world on the GLOBALG.A.P. TOUR 2013 to introduce GLOBALG.A.P. principles and products, engage leading stakeholders around the world, and unite them behind the common mission of upgrading producers’ good agricultural practices.

With events in Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico, South Africa and China, for its next stop GLOBALG.A.P. is heading to Israel. Currently 1,370 producers are GLOBALG.A.P. certified in Israel for products covering varieties of capsicums, grapefruit, pomegranates, avocados, mandarins, dates, mangoes, persimmons, tomatoes and various herbs. Israel exports much of its produce to various major markets around the world and many of the country’s producers rely on GLOBALG.A.P. Certification to demonstrate their commitment to Good Agricultural Practice and so gain wider access to new markets and business opportunities.

The GLOBALG.A.P. TOUR 2013 event in Tel Aviv will be held in collaboration with fresh AgroMashov - International Fresh Produce Summit & Exhibition. The event will introduce GLOBALG.A.P. and its new products and certification system and aims to increase transparency and stakeholder engagement for sustainable agricultural production.
Andras Fekete, GLOBALG.A.P. Manager CB Administration & Integrity, will discuss the current status and trends in Israel, highlight GLOBALG.A.P. solutions for linking producers to market demand as well as satisfying retailer demands and requirements, and provide an overview of the GLOBALG.A.P. certification process, development and forecast.
