Dr Ra'anan Cohen named president of Fresh AgroMashov 2013

Dr Ra'anan Cohen will serve as the President of Fresh AgroMashov 2013 - International Fresh Produce Summit and Exhibition. The event will take place on June 11-12, at the Israel Trade Fairs & Convention Center, Tel Aviv.
Dr Ra'anan Cohen holds a B.A. degree in History, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Middle Eastern Studies from Tel Aviv University.
Ra'anan Cohen was a Counsellor in the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed youth movement and Secretary of the Young Guard of the Labor Party in Bnei Brak (1961-1970). He served as Chairman of the Arab and Druze Branch of the Labour Party (1975-1986) and as Chairman of the Elections Branch of the Labor Party (1986-1992). Since January 1998, he has served as Secretary-General of the Labor Party.
Cohen has been a Member of Knesset since 1988, serving on the Knesset, the Finance, the Foreign Affairs and Defense, and State Control Committees. In the 13th and 14th Knesset he was Chairman of the Labor parliamentary group.
From August 2000 until March 2001 he served as Minister of Labor and Social Welfare.
In March 2001, Ra'anan Cohen was appointed Minister without Portfolio. He left the cabinet on 18 August 2002 and resigned from the Knesset three days later, retiring from politics.
Dr. Ra'anan Cohen has a vast management experience. He held the position of Chairman of the Board of the Industrial Development Bank of Israel and Chairman of the Movement for the Absorption of Veteran Soldiers.
As from 2011, Dr Ra'anan Cohen is serving as the Chairman of the Board of Tozeret Ha'aretz - the Israeli Wholesale Market.
 Tozeret Ha'aretz – The Israeli Wholesale Market will be built on a 212 dunam site in the southeastern quarter of the Mesubim Junction, on the outskirts of Ariel Sharon Park. The market will be built according to international state-of-the-art standards for wholesale marketing, and will be a model for storing, displaying, cooling, shipping, handling and marketing of agricultural products. The market will reduce the unnecessary loss, return and destruction of agricultural products.
The Objectives and Aims of the Israeli Wholesale Market are to establish a leading model (brand) for pricing, preserving and respecting quality-rules in marketing of fruits, vegetables and flowers; to promote competition and enhance the efficiency of marketing systems for agricultural products in Israel; to decrease the price mark-ups, for the consumer's benefit. This will save the Israeli consumer between 1 billion and 2.5 billion Israeli Shekels a year; to enhance the supervision over trade of agricultural products; to supervise the observance of statutory standards laws for marketing and preserving agricultural products, in order to achieve better quality of the agricultural products, all this for the benefit of public health; to have transparent prices and to publicize them in the media; to increase the return for the farmers; to change the organizational culture of marketing fruits and vegetables.
